survived it

OBJECTIVE Magazine layout for stroke survivors. While my mom’s stroke was not as devastating as the worst-case-scenarios, she was dramatically changed. She lost use of her left arm, walks with a cane and leg brace, has speech difficulties, and is treated with a mood stabilizer. It has definitely been a roller coaster of emotions for our family.

STRATEGY I wanted to create a magazine that people like her could read—a magazine with large enough type, simplified, with no clutter, and above all else, useful. A magazine that brightens a stroke survivors day and includes real resources they could use such as a simple step by step explainer of how to get toothpaste onto her toothbrush with one hand. I included other resources such as a relaxation podcast to help keep stress and blood pressure down.
